These are the adverts that I have used throughout my newspaper. From looking at other newspapers that are currently available I have designed my own. I have kept the backgrounds simple colours as it would be too expensive to print a wide range of colourful backgrounds. The majority of adverts try and shout at the readers to grab their attention, some do this by adding italics to ‘YOU’ or making it capital letters and the rest of the advert lower case. Simple adverts are used in local newspapers and the majority are advertising local businesses. To catch the attention of people, I've used the words 'Win, Free, Fast and Easy' so they get the right impression as soon as they would view the advert.

Poster Research
These are some examples of adverts used to advertise current newspapers. They appear to be very colourful but not too overpowering. The main aspects of the advert are very bright and stand out, for example 'the sun' stands out from the rest; this one is a good example as the price is also included. The use of 'All for just 30p' works well with the reader as it makes it seem like they're getting a lot of news, for little money. The Guardian adverts tend to be constantly going against each other, especially with the ‘fact, opinion, fact, opinion’ piece. All adverts use simple backgrounds so that they’re not too dominating within the poster. I myself, think that the advert should include an image to make it seem more personal to the viewer, then maybe it would boost the sales if they can relate to it.

Images
These are the main images from the Photo-shoots which I did for the Newspaper. I took the images with a Digital SLR camera and used a variety of angles and lighting. The first page shoot (on the left) was taken in a street I live near. I took the images around 6pm, just as it was going dark so that I could edit them on Photoshop and they would appear to be taken in the early hours of the morning which relates them to the story. Through looking through a few newspapers; such as the Metro and Wigan Observer, I saw that they commonly used the technique of putting the name of the street in the corner. This is why I decided to take a similar photo. The street name would also instantly appeal to the consumer as they’re from the local area and are likely to know where it is.The Photo-shoot on the right was conducted at home. As it was a drug story, I tried to replicate an image that would look like a drug. The consumer would instantly understand what it is, know that it’s a serious issue and want to read more. I chose to use a high amount of lighting so the product could clearly be seen. I plan to select the best image and transfer it onto my newspaper.

Newspaper Name Final
These are the final stages of my newspaper name. I decied to include 'Express' in my final name as the others appeared to be too spaced out because there wasn't enough text. This way it appeals as fast, quick news for the reader. I also decided to choose maroon rather than bright red as the red seems overpowering and tacky.
This is my final name that I will use for my front page. I have only used 2 simple colours on a blank background to ensure that it doesn't overpower everything else on the page. The white background enables the text to stand out well. I chose the slogan 'keeping you informed' as it's more personal to the reader and makes them think the newspaper is designed just for their use only.

Final name designs
Through looking at other names and gaining ideas, I have finalised my name and started to experiment with changing the colours, to get the best match.
I have used the same layout and positioning for my text but used some san serif and serif fonts. The black text on a white background works best as the red can seem a little overpowering; therefore it will look slightly tacky overall.
The black 'Manchester' and maroon 'News' works best as it stands out but it doesn't seem tacky. I have used a serif font and it creates an old effect, which is more likely to be more knowledgeable and trustworthy with the information it gives.
