Radio Script

The advert I will record will consist of a conversation between 2 females, both with Northern accents so it suits the targeted area of Manchester, for my newspaper. To the audience it will appear that the two females are friends having a conversation. A male voice will then be introduced with the main pitch of the newspaper. I have chosen to do this because the majority of adverts include a dominating male voice to make the initial pitch of the product/object. This is because the Stereotypical male seems to be powerful and dominant; therefore the newspaper is more likely to be bought by the local people.
So the advert doesn’t seem boring, I intend to have some music playing underneath. However, the type of music is very important and it needs to be subtle and not overpowering. Therefore, the voice would be the strongest point of the whole advertisement.
The general idea of the advertisement would be that the 2nd female is unaware of what’s happening in the local area and the male says that they could read the new local newspaper. The male voice informs the audience of the name, slogan and the price. This is important as it’s everything that the listener needs to hear, then they’re more likely to purchase the newspaper.
The people will consist of:
Female 1, Female 2 and Male.

The Script

Female 1 :”Did you hear about the car crash on Newcastle road?”
Female 2: “No I didn’t”
Female 1: “Oh, well did you hear about the lady that got 10p stuck in her pie?”
Female 2: “I’ve not heard about that either, I miss everything. I wish I could keep informed on the local news... I feel so out of date, a bit like sour milk.”
Female 1:  “Ey? Sour milk?”
Male: “Put the sour milk aside, read the Manchester Express, keeping you informed for only 30p
Female 2: “Have you heard about your husband having a bit of how’s your father with the next door neighbour?”
Female 1: “WHAT?!”
Female 2: “Well, I guess they don’t put everything in the papers then”

I am going to use both male and female voices in order for the clip to appeal to a wide range of people. Also if I were to use different aged people, it would continue to keep the age range open. This is good as it will make the newspaper appeal to a mass audience who live in the area. This then becomes important as it's the launch of a Newspaper, people won't have heard about it before; therefore a good first impression is crucial.

Newspaper Development

Second Page Image

Front Page Image

This is the image that I will be using on the front page of my newspaper. I have slightly brightened it on Photoshop so that it appears to have been taken in the early hours of the morning; therefore it links in with the time of the incident occurring during the story. I took the example from a local newspaper which had the name of the street in the top corner. I have done this and added a slight shadow to make it look professional and make it clear that it's a separate part of the page.

Newspaper adverts

These are the adverts that I have used throughout my newspaper. From looking at other newspapers that are currently available I have designed my own. I have kept the backgrounds simple colours as it would be too expensive to print a wide range of colourful backgrounds. The majority of adverts try and shout at the  readers to grab their attention, some do this by adding italics to ‘YOU’ or making it capital letters and the rest of the advert lower case. Simple adverts are used in local newspapers and the majority are advertising local businesses. To catch the attention of people, I've used the words 'Win, Free, Fast and Easy' so they get the right impression as soon as they would view the advert.

Poster Research

These are some examples of adverts used to advertise current newspapers. They appear to be very colourful but not too overpowering. The main aspects of the advert are very bright and stand out, for example 'the sun' stands out from the rest; this one is a good example as the price is also included. The use of 'All for just 30p' works well with the reader as it makes it seem like they're getting a lot of news, for little money. The Guardian adverts tend to be constantly going against each other, especially with the ‘fact, opinion, fact, opinion’ piece. All adverts use simple backgrounds so that they’re not too dominating within the poster. I myself, think that the advert should include an image to make it seem more personal to the viewer, then maybe it would boost the sales if they can relate to it.
