The target audience for this Newspaper people who use the public transport to commute to and from work daily. The social class of the average reader is likely to be low, as stereotypically, high-middle and upper class, would have their own car for travelling. The paper provides basic information on the main stories, news, sport, weather, jobs and properties available and it's also free, therefore the people are more likely to pick up and read it.
The layout is fairly simple and it contains everything that a usual newspaper does, the picture is very engaging and will draw the reader in, the big headline also easily draws attention. The image used is very effective and engaging.
The colour scheme used is very simple, mainly black and white with the image and name adding colour, creating a positive impact.I have used this as an example of a good newspaper for a number of reasons. Firstly, I like the overall layout of it, the image is placed in the centre to create a focal point. The actual photograph used is very dramatic and works well with the page, it entices the reader and makes them want to know more. The colour scheme is also still very basic, black and white, with bursts of red and other bright colours down the right hand side. The colours down the side makes it seem less professional and this can indicate that it’s a local newspaper, not made for a massive audience. The layout used is also similar to other local newspapers.
I have chosen this as an example of what not to do. I think it looks very unprofessional and the picture isn’t interesting at all. Whereas the front image should be the main attraction of the newspaper in order to ensure that readers will want to engage with the newspaper. However it has the usual conventions of a newspaper but they could have been done better. The layout could be improved and they’ve used too many colours. The main story is relating to weather however the image doesn't show this. Therefore when I'm creating my own newspaper I will relate the front image to the main story of the paper so that the reader will be entertained.
